Background and Objective: Chronic diseases in the elderly are considered the leading cause of death worldwide, which is closely related to a health-promoting lifestyle. The aim of this study was to determine the health-promoting lifestyle and associated factors in older people with chronic diseases.
Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted on 375 elderly people with chronic diseases referred to hospitals in Yazd city in 2024. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and a Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP II) questionnaire. The data were analyzed with SPSS 22 using descriptive and analytical statistics.
Findings: The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the variables age, occupation and education with health-promoting behaviors (p<0.05). The mean and standard deviation of the health-promoting lifestyle (123.69 ± 20.59) were assessed at a moderate level. The domain of health responsibility (31.61 ± 7.74) had the highest score, and stress management (12.72 ± 3.36) was reported lowest in older people with chronic diseases.
Conclusion: Considering that health-promoting lifestyle and some of its dimensions were reported at moderate and low levels in the elderly. Therefore, it seems necessary to design, implement and follow various educational interventions to maintain and promote health in order to lead a healthy lifestyle, focusing on strengthening the areas in which they are weak.
