Background and Objective: In 2020, the World Health Organization declared the corona epidemic as an international health concern. One of the vulnerable groups affected by this pandemic is the elderly. The aim of this study was to investigate the feeling of loneliness and its related factors during the post-corona period among the elderly in Isfahan city.
Methods: In this descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study, the information of 225 elderly people of Isfahan city was collected through a simple and available sampling method. The data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, social support questionnaire, de Jong loneliness questionnaire and quality of life questionnaire. The data was analyzed using SPSS 22.
Findings: The results of this study showed that the feeling of loneliness among the elderly during the spread of Corona was 28%. In addition, 22.2% of the elderly experienced emotional loneliness and 20.9% of the elderly experienced social loneliness. Older people who had more social support and a better quality of life during the post-corona period also felt less lonely.
Conclusion: From the findings of the present study, it can be concluded that variables such as emotional loneliness, social loneliness, social support and quality of life in old age should be given more attention in the educational programs of health care providers to reduce the feeling of loneliness among the elderly. It is also recommended that more studies be conducted to develop educational-counseling and supportive interventions to prevent the adverse consequences of loneliness in old age.
